This is a whole class activity that can be done in groups or pairs. I love doing this as its a real chance for students to engage with their work and for the teacher to target help where it is needed. A self directed learning win!!
This is great for self directed learning allowing the teacher to target instruction and monitor the whole class as they are engaged in an activity. I have changed some of the words to make them a little easier as i work in an ESL environment, but i have left some more difficult ones in as well. If you want to change it there is a link at the bottom to the editable version.
A great little game for ESL, Kindergarten and Primary students. It follows a simplified version of the popular card game UNO, and so students are likely to be familiar with the rules and game-play. I will put the rules below…
As teachers we all love teaching students about animals, there is something that just catches the imagination about this topic.
This is an awesome self directed learning activity. Just split your class into groups of 2-4 and give them a counter and a dice. They will play this game for ages and you can monitor their progress as they are all engaged in the lesson.
I love teaching these in my classrooms, it really adds understanding and comprehension to even beginning and young learners of English. The ability to cut and put a word together is a really important skills for English learners and i hope these help you achieve this.
The letter ”y” can be both a consonant and a vowel. There are some rules we can teach our students to help them grasp the concept. Of course, this being English these rules are mostly true and there are exceptions to this as well.
I love these self directed activities, they really allow students to take charge of their learning. This one they have to produce a poster by reading, matching pets to their descriptions and then complete a small written exercise in the middle of them all.
A great self directed learning activity. Students can play snakes and ladders with short vowel words and CVC words. Hope you like it.
An eternal subject with great accessible text and images. Great for young readers
