What is a Trigraph
Lets keep this fairly simple as the aim is to teach your students and not give you a full phonology lesson. The aim is output of language, not learning Phonology terminology (ha!)
A trigraph is a group of three letters in English that make one sound. similar to how a Digraph is a group of two letters that make one sound. Trigraph examples can include tch, air, eau, dge. They can consist of vowels or consonants. Often three letter vowel combinations are called triphthongs.
What is a Quadgraph
As you can probably guess if a trigraph is a three letter group of letters then a quadgraph is a four letter group of letters that form one sound. These can be a combination of consonants or vowels.
