Summer Travel Ideas for Teachers: Why I Started Bucket List Guides
One of the best parts of being a teacher is having long summer breaks — and if you’re anything like me, that time off is the perfect excuse to get on a plane, explore a new country, or finally take that trip you’ve been dreaming about all year.
Over the past few years, I’ve been travelling more during school holidays, and it eventually led me to create a separate travel website: BucketListGuides.com. It’s where I now post trip ideas, cruise reviews, destination guides, and tips for anyone planning their next adventure.
So, if you’re looking for inspiration for your next summer break, here are a few travel ideas that teachers will absolutely love — along with links to some guides and videos I’ve made from my recent trips.
🌅 1. A Relaxing, Easy-Going Greek Islands Trip
If you’ve ever wanted a stress-free island escape, Greece is perfect for teachers. The islands are safe, easy to navigate, and have great food, beaches, and history. You can hop between islands in a few hours, and each one has its own personality.
Some great options for a 1–2 week trip:
- Santorini for incredible views
- Naxos or Paros for beaches and great food
- Kos, Patmos or Samos if you want quieter, more authentic islands
- Rhodes if you love medieval old towns

🚢 2. A Japan Cruise – Stress-Free and Packed With Culture
Japan is an unbelievable place to visit, but travelling around can sometimes feel overwhelming — especially in peak summer.
One of the easiest ways to see several cities without the stress is by taking a Japan cruise. Everything is organised, transport is handled for you, and you get to see places like Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, and Hiroshima all in one trip.
Cruising in Japan is clean, safe, punctual, and incredibly scenic.
If you want a summer trip that balances culture, comfort, and convenience, Japan is unbeatable.
✨ 3. Explora Journeys – A Luxury Cruise Option for a Special Summer
If you’re thinking of treating yourself (or celebrating finishing a school year!), Explora Journeys is one of the newest, most luxurious cruise lines in the world.
We recently sailed on Explora I on a 6-night itinerary through Turkey and Greece — and it was one of the most relaxing holidays we’ve ever taken. Beautiful suites, incredible food, quiet decks, great service, and a very calm atmosphere compared to big mainstream cruise ships.
This one is definitely more premium, but if you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime summer holiday, it’s worth a look.

❤️ Why Teachers Deserve to Travel More
Travelling during summer break is not just fun — it’s healthy. It resets your mind, gives you new experiences to bring back to the classroom, and helps you recover from a long, demanding school year.
That’s one of the reasons I started BucketListGuides.com:
to share the places we’ve visited, the mistakes we made, and the tips that help make travel easier and more enjoyable — especially for teachers who finally get a chance to unplug.
