At the moment, it being February 9th 2020, I am stuck at home here in Hong Kong. I am a teacher here and have been for a long time. They have closed the schools till at least March the 2nd, and though I am sure my students as well as me did a little WHOOP noise when we heard that fast forward a week with most of Hong Kong closed and it is actually pretty boring.
Following on from the great response from teachers in having these games in one easy bookmarked place I have made on for Magic or Silent E as well. These games are harder to find it appears so i hope this will be of use as well. I have played them all and as usual they are a mixed bag. I also have one of mine in App and online form and will put the usual links below it
I know we call it STEM education now, or STEAM if the Art department get sniffy about it, but really in the opinion of this long in the tooth teacher most of these activities have been around for years. I teach in English in a Primary school in Hong Kong, and i have used these lessons to both spice up my lessons and to show the value and real world applications of my subject. When students can see a purpose for the subject they are learning their engagement and motivation will skyrocket. (not unlike the balloon rocket experiment on my site!)
Although i constantly espouse the value of technology in education there is more to life than popping a tablet in a students hand, and in many many places around the world it simply isn’t feasible to do.
