What is the simple future tense in English? The simple future tense is used to refer to actions or events that will happen and end in the future . When we use the present tense, something is happening now. When we use the past tense, something has happened before now.
The simple future tense is used for actions or events that will happen in the future, so when we are talking about these things happening in other times (rather than now) then we have to use something different. We do this by using the present (or root) form of the verb and the word will or shall.
Actions: I will go to the cinema.
Events: Tomorrow there will be a meeting.
Will and shall are sometimes interchangeable, but will is more colloquial and informal. Shall we take coffee or tea? Shall is more formal, and you are more likely to use it in a written invitation than in spoken English.
