A little more involved but many junior students know directions in their native language and some in English as well. This lesson allows them to make a compass out of basic materials and to try it out with directions. It works well with the sundial lesson as they can find North before using their sundial to tell you the time!

Teachers explanation to follow on magnetism and why it points north.
They can take the compass home to show parents and they can teach their friends to make one.
