Who are they for?
I have started to make some readers that help to supplement schools and classrooms reading schemes and can be used as a resource when needed and there will be others to come on the site soon as well. These are aimed at Kindergarten and grade 1 to 3 students and i have tried to keep the text at lower reading levels. There are editable versions on the store if you wanted to increase the difficultly for your particular students.

These reading cards cover 5 different stories some fiction and no fiction and a song as well. I have kept the language deliberately at the lower level and these are mostly aimed at grade 2-4 but of course could go either side of those grades. .

Reading and writing together is a great way to cement knowledge and with students natural affinity towards wildlife this is a good subject to use to encourage that.

What are they for?
They can be used as part of general lessons or as part of a Guided reading programme ( which is what i am going to try to build up here) A set of reading cards for schools to be able to target reading levels for their students and implement a cost saving reading system to help them better cater for learner diversity. I have made these for my students. Guided and leveled readers can be really really expensive so I thought putting some packs of leveled readers might be helpful to teachers out there. These reading passages are leveled using the SMOG and Flesch Kincaid Grade Level. As with all things this is dependent on the background, prior knowledge and reading level of your students. Some will find it easier some will find it more difficult. So they are designed for you to use your professional judgement

Digraph Colouring Worksheets Editable templates

Who are they for?
I love using these for my younger, and even not so young learners. They just work. The concept is simple, the making of these is not!! it took me an age!

This is the big worksheet, and the three single sounds worksheets covering three digraph sounds, WH, CH, and SH. This is a step up from teaching CVC and single sounds and this is a good introduction to enable that.

They . all the short sounds are inside the body of the picture and for the full, and most of the single worksheets, the words outside the outline of the picture all follow a similar pattern. .

How to use these colouring sheets?

Students have to identify the difference between the sounds and colour them according to the key / code on each worksheet.

They really are great to help recognise the difference between the digraph sounds, and for teachers they are super easy to mark as its colour coded! for ones where students do a good job they can also be used as a display as well. I have done this most years when I do this activity.

I have two versions in the file one is the single sounds, more aimed if you introduce the sounds individually, and a bigger worksheet that has all of the sounds and long vowels if you are doing the activity in for later years.

Simple Past Tense Worksheets and Handouts – Editable

This is the Editable PowerPoint version of these Long and Short Vowel Sorting worksheets.

I actually enjoy teaching this subject, and run it as an ongoing quiz or activity through out the year, where students have to pick three past tense verbs from a bag and then so the following.

The word says washed

the ED Sound says ”t”

This is because the final sound of wash is ”sh’‘

If they could do that three times then they would win a cool eraser, a Toys R’US jumping bean or similar priced toy that a teacher can afford! It worked really really well! .

However , I digress, These worksheets are part of the lessons that I teach to 8 to 11 year old ESL students to help them learn and then master the tricky simple past tense pronunciation. Although, even with mistakes, this still means they would be understandable it is better if they can be given the rules on pronunciation so they can work it out for themselves. It also then allows them to teach their classmates and peers as well.

So these worksheets are aimed at being a learning experience and not just solely as a test for knowledge. They can be used as either stand alone activities or as a teacher / student led activity. I have used these in my classes and though i would make them a little more pretty for all of you

Included here are two simple past tense worksheets and a handout for students with the rules of the Ed Endings that can be printed and given to students. This gives them the material needed to complete ontheir own, and to help them take their own time to process the rules.

I am making other resources for this and other subjects but school has started back now ( post Covid, well kinda post CoVid) so it will slow down a little till the holidays.
