They are designed to be used with differing levels of text that you may be using and cover the 7 main reading comprehension strategies. These strategies are listed below.
We have also linked in this page the articles on our site that offer tips and advice on both what these reading strategies are and how to teach them. Each of these articles is aimed at younger learners, but that theory carries on to older learners and more difficult texts.
The enjoyment that reading brings requires both confidence and understanding. Our phonics and reading skills workbooks aim to help with confidence and skill building. This collection aims to bring the deeper understanding and to practice higher order and comprehension skills that will develop our children and students into fluent and skilled readers.

These worksheets and activities progress from our CVC and Short Vowels workbook. They introduce and practice digraphs and blending skills. These can be tricky for younger learners and we have included a large amount of practice worksheets. We have also included an online game / App at the end that enables these skills to be practiced using a different format.

The printable activities you will find in this workbook are designed to focus on the vowel sounds in English. These short and long vowel sounds are an integral part of phonics instruction. We have over 50 worksheets and activities to help practice and master these often tricky sounds. We have included some revision materials to remind students and children about short vowels and constructing simple CVC words. Then we move onto the differences between long and short vowel sounds. There is a considerable focus on this as it can take a little time for students to fully master these important skills.
We have also included worksheets and activities for long vowel patterns and phonics rules included ‘’magic/silent e’’, r-controlled vowels, vowel digraphs and diphthongs and how Y can make vowel sounds

This is the Editable PowerPoint version of these consonant digraphs and blends worksheets.
These free phonics worksheets cover long and short vowels and helping students say and then differentiate between the sounds of long and short vowels. They ask students to read, say, listen and then write the words so cover all the main skills of English. The worksheets are for each of the five long and short vowel sounds. They are designed for younger learners but of course can be used as you need to fit your own teaching environment.
Teaching these skill is the a further step from single sound recognition and move on to word construction These will help students develop skills in blending and recognising sounds to make new words.

A tried and tested method of allowing students to practice their vocabulary and great as supplementary work to a topic. 7 different crosswords for you to use in class.
I have included 7 individual crossword worksheets here and the editable version means you can resize them or cover the answer keys, which are included at the bottom of the page
They are designed for younger learners but if you remove those answers it gets much more difficult!
This should make it easier for teachers and home schoolers. I have put them on A5 if you need them smaller, if you want them as A4 then they can be resized. I wanted to try to save paper and resources and i think they are big enough.

A set of lovely animal pictures and letters to help young learners with learning both the names and the sounds of English. I have added some alternatives at the end as well for other letters and animals. ( the ones i could find any way)
I have made them to fit on A5 ( so two per piece of A4 paper) if you need different sizes i will make a few different sets and these could be used as cards or even as posters on your classroom or home walls.
Check out the other versions which are designed as worksheets and students have to think of any words they can that start with that letter ( although you could also do the phonetic sounds as well) these are both available as free and as editable if you need.
