Ocean Animals Dominoes Reading and Crafts- PowerPoint editable

One of our favourite activities for learners of all ages. It is a full lesson or about an hour in duration

I love doing this activity, it is self directed and students really get into it. It is a whole class activity that can be done in groups, pairs or as an individual. I like to give each students a copy so they have their own work to present and take home

This is a whole class activity that can be done in groups or pairs.
Students are given a board and the Ocean animals description and have to match the description to the Ocean animals picture and glue it to the board
They go horizontal across the top and the bottom and vertically along the sides.
When you ( or the students) cut out the dominos make sure there is a picture AND a description on the domino ( dominos have two sides)
Make sure the students know how to glue them as sometimes they will stick them all at the top.

We also have a rubric to show you how it fits together.
You should print the dominoes on a4 paper and the board to stick on a3!!!
We will have an instruction video on the YouTube site as well.

I have made these for my school and students. Guided and leveled readers can be really really expensive so I thought putting some packs of leveled readers might be helpful to teachers out there. These reading passages are leveled using the SMOG and Flesch Kincaid Grade Level. As with all things this is dependent on the background, prior knowledge and reading level of your students. Some will find it easier some will find it more difficult. So they are designed for you to use your professional judgement

I have started to make some readers based on themes. This theme is farm animals and there will be others to come on the site soon as well. These are aimed at Kindergarten and grade 1 to 2 students and i have tried to keep the text at lower reading levels. There are editable versions on the store if you wanted to increase the difficultly for your particular students.

Reading and writing together is a great way to cement knowledge and with students natural affinity towards wildlife this is a good subject to use to encourage that.

They images are below so you can get an idea of the content.

They can be used as part of general lessons or as part of a Guided reading programme ( which is what i am going to try to build up here) A set of reading cards for schools to be able to target reading levels for their students and implement a cost saving reading system to help them better cater for learner diversity. There are multiple sets of these on the site some are multi – topic and graded, others (like this one) are set on a particular subject. In this case farm animals. They are constantly, work allowing, added to so it maybe worth booking marking the site.

A set of rhyming CVC poems for students to practice reading CVC, high frequency and sight words. They are a little more difficult than the previous onset and rime readers but offer a more genuine experience. They also introduce rhyming for students ( in the form of a poem)

Reading comprehension is both difficult and essential for younger learners. Half the battle is getting them motivated on a topic to be willing as well as able to try to use reading strategies. These cards will help. You can add additional questions as you wish.
